we were given
the opportunity to
go to a marriage retreat
to learn to better
communicate.
an entire weekend just
with each other

i gave her some
of my old make-up
and she decided
that she could become
a tiger.

we went to see
the phantom of the opera
and since it was
veteran’s day
he dressed up
and so did i.

even though she
thinks this doll
is for someone else.
she named her
“ladybug”
and said that she
was perfect.

for Christmas
the girls wanted
fairy dolls,
but being a
crafty mama
i made them instead
of paying the $80
in the catalog.

i needed a
little black dress
because all women
are supposed to have one,
and i had occasion
to wear one.
so a friend and i
shopped until the stores
closed.
