Day 85

Posted in Husband, kids, whoops on December 22, 2008 by leanerlou

Last year
Dec 20 I forgot to take a picture.
So here is a reminder of what we
were doing last year,
when he was home
and safe with us.
And can I say… isn’t he hot in a scarf?

dolphins
I have always loved dolphins.
They seem so playful
happy, and joyous.
Smarter than dogs
Swimming in the sea.
Here's to the Heroes
One way to make
me miss my husband more
is to be thanked for
his service,
when I am struggling
with understanding why
he has to be there
in the first place.

cemetery
Although the headstone
is only from 2000 the tree
already attempts to
hide it in its roots.
Imperial Beach Pier
A cold, cold wet day
to cold to go out
to wet to walk
on the pier.

traffic Sitting in traffic
bad traffic caused
by rain (come on people!)
is annoying.
Because people in
Arizona forget
how to drive
when the roads are wet.

sprinkles
Baking and decorating cookies
is a long held tradition
every year her cookies
get more elaborate.
(And this year, mom couldn’t find the
all purpose flour so these sugar cookies
are whole wheat. And you know what?
They taste just fine.)

santa-lucia
Rhayn’s school celebrates many of the Catholic holy days or “Saint’s Days”
Friday the 12th they celebrated Santa Lucia (or Saint Lucy) Day. Follow this link for the wikipedia description. Keep reading for the story told to class 2 at my daughter’s school.

“Lucia was a devote young girl. She was very beautiful, but mostly her eyes shown like stars. A young man fell in love with her and asked for her hand in marriage. She refused him, because she wanted to marry God. He tortured her. He chained her up, but the chains would not stay on her. He did this many times. Finally Lucia found out that he loved most of all, her eyes. So she gouged them out and gave them to him on a plate. She was such a good person that her eyes grew back.”

The 2nd grade walks around the school, singing a song about her and passing out eyeball shaped rolls (little round rolls) to all of the students and faculty. The oldest girl in the class wears the crown of pine with candles while they walk.

relax
There is nothing
like a beautiful day,
with perfect weather
and a hammock
to help you relax.

scrambled eggs
Most days for breakfast
we have instant oatmeal,
but sometimes we like to
eat scrambled eggs.
She carefully stirred them
making sure they were perfect.

lights on the tree
Still learning how to use my camera off of “auto” and I really like how these came out. I did a study of aperture slowly changing the setting and taking a picture in between. If only all studying was this fun!
