just a little while
before the rain started
the clouds covered the sky
leaving little room
for her majesty,
the sun,
to show us her colors
before she faded
for the night.

many times
when plants
start to go to seed
they are torn from
their garden home
unceremoniously
but with cilantro
the seeds are as good
as the leaves
and so it goes to
seed and becomes
coriander.

they sat at the bench
and lightly touched the keys
all the while singing
made up songs.
it fills my heart
with the joy
that I knew
a piano would give.

Day 230

the day was spent
in stores or in transit
while we searched
for a piano.
This one was begging
us to take it home
and love it.
We couldn’t help
but comply.

Day 229

We had breakfast
at the zoo
and learned about
jaguars.
They like things
that smell strongly,
so the kids
sprayed perfume
and coated the leaves
with lipgloss.
Then the leaves were placed in
the jaguar’s enclosure
for her to find.
