easily i swing my legs
up into the branches
of the tree.
she feels like an
old friend, familiar though
her branches have
changed since my youth.
the utter amazement
on the face of my
child, was worth it
when she said
“mom! you can do anything”
yes, my darling
i think i can.

i suppose that
since i will never have
my brown eyed baby
i must come to terms
with it,
it should be simple
especially since
these eyes look
back at me
from my first born.
these eyes
so full of joy
and happiness
and intelligence
staring deep
into my soul
and loving me
the way a child
loves her mother.

such a simple thing
can bring such pleasure.
four holes drilled
in a piece of scrap wood,
two lengths of rope
salvaged from the truck,
and one fairly sturdy branch
was all it took
to bring this smile
to her face.

the sunflowers emerged
slowly from their winter sleep
and grew,
stretching to the sun,
shading smaller,
more tender plants
with their five feet
or more of height.
and then
one day
they opened up
their red-orange faces
to show the world.

if ever a plant in the world
exuded sex and fertility
it would be the fig
her fruit is born
and slowly ripens
beneath leaves
with lovely curves
her fruit so sweet
and rich
hangs heavy
in her
like milk filled breasts
while the smell,
oh the smell of her
is so slightly musky
just like a ripe woman.

Spring time brings
a performance for the grades
at her school.
Her class performed a piece called
“Comparisons” another called
“The Willows”
then they sang “Jack y Jill”
