Krause Springs
so green,
so peaceful
this natural spring
calls to my soul
but the poison ivy
that grows so freely
makes me step back.

Desert corn fields
“knee by July”
is not the rule
in this state.
Over the head and
maybe even harvested by July
is more likely.

coriander
many times
when plants
start to go to seed
they are torn from
their garden home
unceremoniously
but with cilantro
the seeds are as good
as the leaves
and so it goes to
seed and becomes
coriander.

red sweet corn seedlings
even with the heat
my garden leaves me
hopeful
that the summer
will not kill me
even if it makes
me wilt a little.

climbing the tree
easily i swing my legs
up into the branches
of the tree.
she feels like an
old friend, familiar though
her branches have
changed since my youth.
the utter amazement
on the face of my
child, was worth it
when she said
“mom! you can do anything”
yes, my darling
i think i can.
