so green,
so peaceful
this natural spring
calls to my soul
but the poison ivy
that grows so freely
makes me step back.

heirloom tomatoes:
so good
i could eat them
at the farmer’s market
in front of everyone
and not even feel
bad.

the vine covers
a large amount
of the garden
and finally
its blooms
have produced
an Armenian cucumber
(it is only about 2 inches long…
but hey! exciting nonetheless!)

many times
when plants
start to go to seed
they are torn from
their garden home
unceremoniously
but with cilantro
the seeds are as good
as the leaves
and so it goes to
seed and becomes
coriander.

even with the heat
my garden leaves me
hopeful
that the summer
will not kill me
even if it makes
me wilt a little.

easily i swing my legs
up into the branches
of the tree.
she feels like an
old friend, familiar though
her branches have
changed since my youth.
the utter amazement
on the face of my
child, was worth it
when she said
“mom! you can do anything”
yes, my darling
i think i can.
